The 2021 BMW M3 sedan and M4 coupe have been teased one final time before their official unveiling this week, giving fans the clearest look yet at their front-end designs.

Like a gender reveal party for the Hulk, BMW deliberately obscured the images with green computer-generated smoke to match the green paint worn by both cars.

However, the pictures confirm the new performance models will wear the controversial 'coffin grille' front-end – a point of contention among fans since spy pictures first hinted at the unique nose.

More positively received might be the presence of a manual gear knob in the images.

While a manual transmission was known to be coming on the M3 sedan and M4 coupe, it's a welcome relief for enthusiasts – particularly as BMW phased out the transmission on the M5 sedan, and the last manual M5 was only offered in left-hand-drive markets.

BMW Australia shared images of the manual gear knob on social media, strongly suggesting the transmission will be available to Australian buyers – but an official confirmation is yet to come from the company's local arm.

The BMW M3 and M4 are set to make their global debut on September 23. Be sure to follow CarAdvice on Facebook and Instagram to get the very latest news and reviews.
