2020 Ford Ranger 4×4 XLT double cab chassis joins line-up: Price and specs
A 4x4 XLT double cab chassis will join the Ford Ranger line-up from December.
Priced from $56,240, the new cab chassis drops into the range below the existing 4x4 XLT pick-up variant.
As with all Rangers, the XLT double cab has a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
Standard equipment includes pedestrian detecting autonomous emergency braking, dual-zone climate control, 17-inch alloy wheels, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the new FordPass Connect system (which allows drivers to integrate their phone via an app).
Like the XLT pick-up, the cab chassis also comes with a standard towbar, tongue, and wiring – and carries the same 3500kg maximum tow rating.
The dashboard gets an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, operating the Sync 3 infotainment system.
This digital infrastructure offers a "breadcrumb" feature, that allows drivers to trace their route back to the pavement when off-roading.
Optional extras include leather-accented seating, adaptive cruise control, and black 18-inch alloys.
Alabaster White – the first pearlescent paint colour to be offered on Ranger – has also been introduced as an alternative to the no-cost option Arctic White finish.
Two powertrains are on offer: The entry-level 3.2-litre five-cylinder common rail turbodiesel produces 147kW and 470Nm. It can be optioned with a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic.
The 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel powertrain, first introduced on the Ford Performance Ranger Raptor, is also available and produces 157kW and 500Nm. There is no manual option with this engine, and instead power is sent to the wheels via a new 10-speed automatic.
"Customers looking for Ranger’s high safety and equipment levels who want to add their own customised canopies or personalised tray set-up can now do so with far more ease," Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand said in a statement.
"Owners have told us that they want to save time and money with a ready-to-go, high-spec Ranger Cab Chassis that they can purchase straight off the showroom floor, and the 4x4 XLT Double Cab Chassis is here for these customers, be they tradespeople, adventurers or explorers."
Pricing for the cab chassis XLT undercuts the equivalent pick-up body by $1000. Ford's move to introduce a high-spec cab chassis model comes on the back of Toyota's re-introduction of cab chassis version of the HiLux SR5.
