Photos of undisguised 2021 Peugeot 508 Sport Engineered sedan and wagon variants have been published in the European press this week, offering a first clear look at what's to come.

Revealed in concept form last year, the 508 Sport Engineered concept (also referred to as the 508 PSE) combined a 150kW petrol engine with a pair of electric motors – a front-mounted 82kW and a rear-mounted 150kW unit – to produce a new generation of electrified performance.

The all-wheel-drive, plug-in hybrid concept claimed an impressive 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds, making it quicker than a Mercedes-AMG C43 (4.7 seconds), and only a little slower than the hero C63 S (4.1 seconds).

Fans will be pleased to see the production car's look will mirror that of the concept, and these images also offer a first look at the model this writer is most drawn to: the 508 Sport Engineered wagon.

According to reporting in December last year, the 508 PSE models were set to make their market debut in October 2020, although that was a pre-coronavirus timeline.

However, it is now understood the 508 Sport Engineered models will make their official debut on September 24.

The company's Australian distributor has previously indicated it would be interested in the 508 Sport Engineered models – but, until the models are officially unveiled, it remains to be seen if they'll indeed be made available here.
