2022 Peugeot 308 spy photos reveal retro logo on steering wheel

Spy pics show a new shield on the upcoming 308, but is the French car maker bringing back an old logo?

The new 2022 Peugeot 308 has been spied testing in camouflage, hinting at a more angled vertical light signature, a new-look grille – and a possible new logo for the French car maker.

The masked grille area on this prototype might also hint at it being an electric variant, which would see it sharing its drive system with the electric 208 hatch and the recently revealed Citroen e-C4.

As for its slammed rear end, we can only speculate, but some form of load testing may be at work here.

The design language of this prototype echoes that not only of the current 308 hatch, but also the smaller new 208 hatch, 2008 small SUV, and refreshed Peugeot 3008 and Peugeot 5008 models unveiled this week.

More curiously, our spy photography partners were able to snap a pic of the steering wheel in the Peugeot 308, showing what appears to be a new logo for the French car company.

The 'new' logo could actually be a throwback to a Peugeot shield first launched some six decades ago on the iconic Peugeot 404 sedan.

The gold art deco motif features a lion with a flowing mane – a symbol that has represented the French company since 1847.

The current logo as we know it today was first adapted from the Franche-Comté coat of arms (an historic region in eastern France) in 1948, with redesigns in 1955, 1975, 1998, and 2010.

At this stage it's unclear whether Peugeot will run the shield alongside the current logo, or whether it will replace it entirely.

With the 308 hatch being a direct competitor to the Volkswagen Golf, it's a particularly important model for the car company.

The all-new Peugeot 308 is expected to be revealed in 2021, with deliveries to begin in 2022.
