The 2020 Audi SQ5 TDI Special Edition has been announced for Australia with a mild-hybrid diesel powertrain.
Buyers can now choose between a 48-volt mild-hybrid 3.0-litre turbo diesel V6 producing 255kW/700Nm, or the current 3.0-litre turbo petrol V6 engine offering 260kW/500Nm in the SQ5 TSFI.
The new mild-hybrid diesel engine in the SQ5 uses an electric turbocharger – first seen on the 2016 Audi SQ7 – working in conjunction with the traditional exhaust-powered turbo to ensure a linear power delivery across the rev range.
Audi says the mild-hybrid diesel powertrain gets the SQ5 to 100km/h from standstill in 5.1 seconds, but claims average fuel consumption of only 6.8 litres per 100 kilometres.
The engine is coupled with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic, sending power to all four wheels.
While the facelifted 2021 Audi Q5 was revealed back in June 2020, the SQ5 has yet to receive its makeover.

However, the SQ5 TDI does offer matrix LED headlights and animated indicators, 21-inch alloy wheels, red brake callipers, and five exterior paint options at no extra cost. A black exterior trim package is exclusive to the SQ5 TDI.
A hands-free electric tailgate, keyless entry and start, privacy window tint, and a panoramic sunroof are also standard.
Inside, the Audi SQ5 TDI gets a 19-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, head-up display, and a digital instrument cluster.
There are 30 colours to choose from for the interior's ambient lighting, a three-zone climate control system, and front seat occupants benefit from heating and massage with the diamond-stitched, Nappa covered seats.
The 2020 Audi SQ5 TDI Special Edition is available to order now, with deliveries expected from November.
