2021 Genesis GV70 previewed: Teasers, spy photos

Hyundai has handed down a series of new 2021 Genesis GV70 preview images, although the vehicle is still wearing camouflage.

Despite the confounding camouflage, the official new photos reveal front and side views not previously seen, offering a first clear look at the general proportions and lines of Hyundai's rival to the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Audi Q5.

The GV70 will enter the Genesis line-up beneath the large GV80 SUV, to be offered alongside the G70 sedan as the brand's next entry in the mid-sizer class.

"We are thrilled to share this early sneak preview of our second SUV, the Genesis GV70,” Hyundai's luxury spinoff Genesis says.

“It telegraphs an exciting new design and reinforces the core brand values that run through our lineup. We look forward to sharing full details on GV70 with everyone in the near future.”

The new photos are shown above and below, but the original story is otherwise unchanged.

September 3, 2020: The 2021 Genesis GV70 has lost some of its heavy camouflage, giving us our best look yet at the all-new model.

These images, originally published on Korean website Bobaedream, show the mid-sized luxury SUV sporting large exhaust tips integrated into the rear bumper.

Interestingly, there appears to be a unique waffle pattern embossed into the alloy wheels – one of two wheel designs expected to be offered.

While the tail-lights follow the design language of the Genesis GV80, the C-pillar helps to distinguish the GV70 from its larger sibling.

It's expected the GV70 will also share the powertrains from the GV80 SUV: a 2.5-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder, 3.0-litre turbo diesel six, and a range-topping 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 – all matched with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.

A fully-electric version of the GV70 is expected in the future, based on Hyundai's E-GMP platform.

The Genesis GV70 is expected to be officially announced in October, with vehicles arriving into Australia by mid-2021.
