2021 Brabham BT62R racer for the road revealed

The Adelaide-based company appears to have the solution, with the unveiling of the BT26R.

The BT26R is the road-legal version of the existing, track-only BT62, and brings the model range to a total of three variants (joining the track-oriented Ultimate Track and race-spec Competition variants).

Available in both left- and right-hand-drive, a range of tweaks have been made to the BT62R compared to its ‘regular’ counterparts to make it more suitable for road use. These include an electronically-controlled variable ride height for clearing driveways or speed bumps, a revised front splitter and a new roof scoop, rear diffuser and single-plane rear spoiler.

Inside the cabin, road-oriented updates consist of new, less aggressively-bolstered carbon-fibre seats trimmed in leather and/or Alcantara with contrast stitching, air conditioning, a heated windscreen, a new digital instrument cluster with dedicated road and track modes, a rear camera, and an optional sound system.

Mounted behind the passengers is the same 5.4-litre naturally-aspirated V8 as the BT62R’s track-only siblings, producing 522kW of power and 667Nm of torque. However, changes have been made to the engine’s mapping for road use, complementing a retuned six-speed sequential gearbox with updated gear ratios and standard-fit paddle shifters.

Goodyear Eagle F1 SuperSport sports tyres wrap around the large alloy wheels, which hide high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes.

Customers can opt to have their BT62R configured in ‘Signature Series’ or ‘Celebration Series’ trims.

Signature Series buyers have the ability to wrap their car in a custom livery designed in conjunction with Brabham’s design team.

Meanwhile, Celebration Series BT62Rs score a range of visual and performance-enhancing tweaks – these include 18-carat gold exterior badging, a unique carbon-fibre-trimmed interior, one of 35 liveries inspired by the Brabham F1 team’s 35 Formula 1 victories, and a ‘Track Pack’ consisting of the front splitter, rear diffuser and rear wing from the track-only BT62 models that can be fitted upon request for circuit use.

The first 2021 Brabham BT62Rs will be delivered to customers in the coming weeks, with the Australian hypercar brand claiming it has received and begun to produce “multiple orders… for customers in both the Northern and Southern Hemisphere."

Local pricing will kick off from a cool AUD$1.5 million before (likely hefty) on-road costs.
