2020 Kia Seltos recalled over design compliance error

More than 2400 examples of Kia's relatively new small SUV have been affected by the safety recall.

Kia Australia has issued a recall of 2465 examples of its Seltos SUV from the 2020 model-year, citing a design compliance issue pertaining to the cars' in-built anti-theft mechanisms.

The recall notice, which was lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), states the Seltos is "not compliant" with an Australian Design Rule requiring an anti-theft lock to be fitted to the steering column shaft.

"Australian Design Rule (ADR) 25 requires an anti-theft lock to be fitted as an anti-theft preventative measure," the recall notice explains.

"During the manufacturing process the anti-theft lock that is fitted to the steering column shaft was not installed."

As a result, the issue means the steering wheel does not lock when the car's key is removed from the vehicle.

The national recall affects Seltos cars sold between 25 October 2019 and 25 August 2020.

Kia Australia is contacting all known owners of affected vehicles via letter to organise to have the issue addressed free of charge.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 2465 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
