2021 Isuzu D-Max on sale today, but deliveries delayed until next month

The new 2021 Isuzu D-Max has begun arriving in Australian showrooms but a stock shortage caused by an interruption to production will delay the complete rollout of most models.

Dealers contacted by Drive have advised they are expecting to receive only limited stock in the coming weeks, and some have only one display vehicle until full shipments arrive next month.

The delay has been attributed to interruptions to production caused by the coronavirus crisis and most dealers say they are not expecting to be able to deliver cars until some time in October.

“Most of us have got one car and (are) selling off that one car,” said one major Isuzu dealer. “Customers are frustrated because many have been waiting for the new model but unfortunately it’s out of our hands.”

Isuzu increased the recommended retail prices of the new D-Max range by between $2000 and $8100 with the introduction of the new model, however drive-away prices on certain models are less than the RRP and undercut some rivals.

Isuzu has to date only announced drive-away offers on the cheapest model in the range, at $29,990 drive-away, and the flagship Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain from $58,990 drive-away.

However, dealers said they are expecting drive-away offer prices across more models when stock arrives in “four to five weeks”.

Koichiro Yoshida, director of sales, fleet and marketing at Isuzu Ute Australia said: “Naturally, we are pleased with the response to date from the media and the public towards the (new) Isuzu D-Max.

“Reports from our Isuzu Ute dealer network indicate higher than expected levels of enquiry, even prior to official start of sales, with initial allocation of some of the top end models moving very quickly.

"This situation is not consistent across all models, however we can confirm that we are working on additional supply of vehicles to meet the demand as quickly as possible.”
