Volvo Australia diesel range pared down for 2021 model year

The most expensive diesel model in the XC60 line-up, the D5 R-Design, is no longer available to local buyers.

The D5 R-Design has also been pulled from the XC90 range.

Those wanting diesel motors in the Volvo XC60 will have to make do with the 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel in the D4 Momentum and D4 Inscription, priced at $64,990 plus on-road costs and $71,990 plus on-road costs respectively.

In the larger XC90, the D5 Momentum is still available for $89,990 plus on-road costs, as well as the D5 Inscription for $94,990 plus on-road costs, both offering 173kW/480Nm from the 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder.

It's understood those diesel models may also be culled in the coming year.

D5 R-Design models, no longer available for both XC60 and XC90, offered higher performance than the rest of the diesel range, with 177kW/500Nm from the diesel powertrain.

The move inches the Swedish automaker closer to its goal of axing its production of internal combustion engines.
