Porsche launches Netflix-inspired subscription service in US

Porsche is trialling a Netflix- and Spotify-inspired subscription model in the automotive market.

Starting September 25, the “Porsche Drive” subscription  program will allow customers in several US cities to drive a Porsche for between one and three months for an all-inclusive fee.

The Porsche Macan SUV is the cheapest model available. It is priced from US$1500 per month (approximately AU$2000).

The Porsche 911 sports car is the most expensive. It is priced from US$2600 per month (approximately AU$3500).

The Panamera, Cayenne, Boxster, and Cayman models are also offered.

A US$595 (approximately AU$815) “activation fee” must be paid for all one-month rentals, however this is waived on three-month contracts.

“Porsche Drive” will be offered alongside the brand's existing fleet and rental programs.

However, a similar service is unlikely to be offered in Australia anytime soon.

A spokesperson for Porsche Australia told Drive “we are monitoring this space, but currently have no confirmed plans to introduce such a concept.”

Earlier this year Nissan launched a similar program overseas called “Nissan Switch.”

Cadillac and Lexus also offer comparable services in the US.
