2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport price and specs: mild-hybrid diesel added
Land Rover's medium-sized SUV gets new mild-hybrid diesel powertrains and updated infotainment, but for extra money.

The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport has been announced with a new mild-hybrid diesel powertrain.
Prices have been increased with the updated model, with the now entry-level Discovery Sport P200 R-Dynamic S rising from $63,100 to $65,700 plus on-road costs.
Land Rover has thinned-out the range, only offering the R-Dynamic design pack for all Discovery Sport models. With the standard P200 S being dropped from the line-up, the cost of entry into a Disco Sport has risen by 8.6 per cent.
All 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport models now gain the R-Dynamic nameplate, meaning buyers get a more aggressive front-end, darker interior headliner, sportier alloy wheels, and a few other tweaks throughout the vehicle.
The R-Dynamic P200 S retains the 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder, offering 147kW/320Nm. Buyers can step-up to the more powerful P250 SE with an extra 37kW/45Nm.
The P250 engine is now the only engine available for the range-topping HSE.
The big news is the addition of a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid turbo diesel powertrain available with two different levels of power. The D165 produces 120kW/380Nm, matched to S specification, while the D200 puts out 150kW/430Nm and is available in the SE trim.
The previous D150 and D160 diesels the new engines replace were rated at 110kW/380Nm and 132kW/430Nm respectively. The 177kW/500Nm D240 HSE has been discontinued in Australia.
All engines are mated to the ZF nine-speed automatic – with first gear reserved for off-road situations – and all-wheel drive.
The 48-volt hybrid system harvests energy under braking, improving fuel economy and lowering emissions. Land Rover also says the new system results in a smoother stop-start operation.
Inside, and the updated Disco Sport gets the company's new Pivi infotainment system, offering in-built Spotify and Bluetooth connection to two smartphones simultaneously. Wireless smartphone charging is also available, with a signal-boosting option.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability are included.
The Pivi infotainment system runs off its own battery, allowing it to boot-up immediately – instead of the delay normally experienced after a car has been started. The system can also update software and stream music over-the-air via an in-built data connection.
The updated Discovery Sport also offers an air purifier, helping to clean the air from potentially harmful particulates, pollen, and strong smells. An air monitoring system is integrated into the Pivi infotainment system.
Safety systems have also been upgraded, adding a rear traffic monitoring assistant to help reduce the severity of a rear-end crash.
A new 3D surround camera also allows occupants to get a more comprehensive idea of the outside at speeds of up to 30km/h, helping with both parking and off-roading.
The 2021 Land Rover Discovery Sport is available to order now in S, SE, and range-topping HSE variants.
