  • New safety features and styling additions
  • Entry-level GX variant goes up by $990
  • Priced from $60,830 before on-road costs

The 2021 Toyota LandCruiser Prado has received a handful of updates across the range, but sees prices increase by between $777 and $990.

Toyota has added blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard to the LandCruiser Prado GX and GXL variants, bolstering the safety suite which includes radar cruise control, lane-departure alert with steering assistance, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and (day) cyclist recognition, and speed sign recognition.

The entry-level Prado GX also gains a chrome-accented grille and puddle lights, while the more luxurious Prado VX and flagship Kakadu models now come with 19-inch wheels in new designs.

All models are powered by Toyota's 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine, which received a power bump last year to 150kW and 500Nm, sent to all four wheels through a six-speed automatic.

Toyota claims fuel consumption of 7.9 litres per 100 kilometres, and 209 grams of CO2 emitted on average for each kilometre driven. The Prado can tow up to 3000kg braked.

On all but the GX, buyers can option a no-cost flat tailgate option pack, which fits the spare tyre under the car – replacing the sub fuel tank – and reducing the fuel capacity to 87 litres from 150.

Nothing changes on the inside, with the Prado fitted with a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with satellite navigation, reversing camera, and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto as standard.

The entire range gets automatic rain-sensing wipers as standard, as well as keyless entry and start. Ten exterior paint options are available, eight of which are an additional $600.

While the GX is the only variant to seat five, a third-row of seats can be optioned for an additional $2550. For $3470, the GXL can get the premium interior pack, which includes leather-accented ventilated and heated power front seats and heated outer second-row seats.

The updated 2021 Toyota LandCruiser Prado will arrive into dealerships from mid-July 2021.
