The 2021 Ford F-150 Raptor may get a supercharged V8 to compete with the new Ram 1500 TRX, if reports out of the US are true.

According to American website The Drive, an insider at Ford has revealed the new F-150 will gain the 5.2-litre V8 engine from the Mustang GT500, suggesting a new power war between Ford and Ram has begun.

The information has come at the same time as a spy video of a camouflaged prototype F-150 Raptor was released by YouTube channel F150gen14, which you can view at the bottom of this story.

While the previous F-150 Raptor received Ford's 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6, this is the first credible information suggesting the new Raptor will get a version of the 567kW/847Nm supercharged V8 found in the Mustang GT500.

Ram's 1500 TRX was launched last week with a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 producing 523kW/881Nm.

The video of the prototype suggests the new F-150 Raptor may be getting a V8, but it remains inconclusive. Watch the video below and let us know what you think in the comments.
