Audi TT Quattro recalled due to fuel tank crash hazard

Audi says the fuel tank in more than 1300 examples of its TT sports car built between 2014 and 2019 could be damaged in a crash and spark a fire.

Audi Australia has issued a recall of 1331 examples of its all-wheel-drive TT coupe made from 2014 to 2019 (MY15-MY19) due to a fault which could cause the fuel tank to be damaged in a crash, and possibly lead to a fire.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), states "a bracket fitted on the vehicle body could collide with the fuel tank, resulting in damage to the fuel tank".

If the fuel tank is punctured in a car accident, this could create a fire hazard and endanger vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders, and/or damage to property.

Affected cars were sold between October 2014 and May 2019. Audi Australia is contacting owners to organise a free inspection and repair, if required.

The brand says there are no known instances of the issue affecting Australian owners, and the recall is a precautionary measure.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 1331 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
