Jeep Grand Wagoneer teased: full-size seven-seat SUV nears debut – UPDATE

Jeep's full-sized, seven-seater SUV is about to be unveiled in the US, but plans for Australia remain unclear.

UPDATE: A pair of new teaser images for the upcoming 2021 Jeep Grand Wagoneer have been handed down, this time offering a tightly cropped view of the new model's grille, along with a close-up look at a knurled rotary dial in the centre console.

We've added those images to this story, which is otherwise unchanged.

August 19: The upcoming Jeep Grand Wagoneer has been teased online, ahead of an official debut for the company's next full-sized flagship SUV.

A badge from the vehicle was posted on Jeep's Instagram page, along with a close-up photo of a starter-button. No captions were posted with the pictures.

The Grand Wagoneer badge appears as if it might be gold-tinted, and is accompanied by the US flag. Gold badging on Jeeps used to be a common sight, and may be making a comeback.

The leather-stitched starter-button – complete with a detailed, brushed-aluminium bezel – suggests the Grand Wagoneer may be pitched at the more premium section of the market as a possible Range Rover rival.

It's unclear at this stage whether a factory right-hand-drive version of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be produced, which will likely be a determining factor for the model making its way to Australia, unless a local conversion was considered.

Jeep has not had a full-sized, seven-seater SUV since the Commander, which was discontinued in 2010.

Since 2018, a Jeep Grand Commander has been offered as an exclusive Chinese-market SUV.

The Grand Wagoneer won't share any components with the Chinese SUV, as the Wagoneer is expected to be based on the new-generation RAM 1500 pick-up (pictured below).

The DT Series Ram 1500 is due in Australian showrooms early next year after being remanufactured locally by the Walkinshaw Automotive Group. The new DT Series will continue to be sold alongside the current DS Series in the US and Australia for the foreseeable future.
