Around the tracks: Sylvester Stallone’s Escalade and a mysterious beach car wreck

Plus, Johnny Cash's old Rolls-Royce gets a Tesla boost, while a Tesla scores petrol power.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. Sylvester Stallone's Cadillac Escalade

Looking for a car worthy of Rocky? Sly Stallone has you sorted – he's just listed his amped-up Cadillac Escalade for US$350,000 and it's every bit as elaborate as you'd expect.

Much like Tom Brady's Escalade – which the NFL player put up for sale earlier this year – Sly had his customised for added comfort by California-based customs shop, Becker Auto Design.

As as result, the 2019 Escalade has been stretched by 20 inches (50.8cm) with a home theatre and mobile office setup inside, complete with its own WiFi connection.

The actor originally purchased the car and completed the customisation for a total of US$409,000 (AU$571,131).

You can see the full vehicle listing here, but here's a preview:

2. This automotive buried treasure in South Carolina

We're used to hearing about shipwrecks, but it's less common for a car wreck to wash up on shore like buried treasure.

That, however, is exactly what happened on a South Carolina beach this week, where the remains of an unidentified car have been revealed by the changing tides.

The highly-corroded chassis, some remaining wheels and parts of the engine were spotted by beach goers, with some onlookers estimating the car to date back to the 1950s.

Any guesses as to what it is and how it got there? Tell us in the comments section!

3. Johnny Cash's old Rolls-Royce gets a Tesla makeover

Question: How do you make a Rolls-Royce previously owned by Johnny Cash even cooler? Answer: You add Tesla power to it.

Oregon-based customs shop Shift EV recently unveiled a project it has long kept under wraps – the conversion of Cash's 1970 Silver Shadow to an electric car.

"Until it was finished, it was one of the best-kept secrets in this age of social media. The project was only known to staff, a few locals and some of Johnny's family," Shift EV explained on its website.

The shop acquired the car when it was in very bad condition, almost undriveable due to "three bad cylinders, frozen/dragging brakes, and other issues requiring a significant overhaul".

"That led to exploring other options for a resto-mod. SHIFT EV was engaged to perform a deep Model S swap, not just the drive system. If that wasn't challenging enough, an obvious priority was to respect Johnny's car by preserving it's exterior and interior," Shift EV explained.

A 2016 Tesla Model S was purchased specifically for the project, and its entire system was transferred into the Rolls without disrupting the classic car's interior and exterior.

You can learn about the painstaking process – and see the finished product – in the video below.

4. This visually pleasing Mercedes-Benz G-Class render

CarAdvice journalist Justin Narayan recently lamented the lack of colour options for today's cars in his op-ed '50 shades of grey'.

So this candy-coloured rendering from digital designer Kefan Weng goes some way to remedying our craving for a rainbow range – even if only superficially.

Hands up if you want a mint green G-Wagen!

5. This likely staged but still entertaining video about charging a Tesla with petrol

It's like a weird riddle  – a Tesla owner breaks down on the side and asks a passer-by for gasoline... why?

The answer lies in this obviously scripted by nevertheless engaging YouTube video which sees the scenario play out to an entertaining conclusion. Watch it below...
