UPDATE, 14 December 2020: Pricing for the 2021 Audi S4 and Audi S5 line-up has been revised down this month, with $400 being knocked off every model in the S4 and S5 range. This story has been updated with the changes.
12 August 2020: Audi Australia has confirmed local pricing and specifications for its range of S4 and S5 performance cars due to hit local showrooms in October.
The range encompasses five variants, all powered by the same 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine making 260kW and 500Nm. Those outputs are sent to all four wheels via Audi’s eight-speed tiptronic automatic transmission.
The range kicks off with the $99,500 (plus on-roads) Audi S4 sedan which shares the mantle of the fastest in the range with the Audi S5 coupe, both capable of hitting 100km/h from standstill in 4.7 seconds.
Standard equipment highlights for the S4 sedan include 19-inch alloys, S sport suspension with adaptive dampers, LED head- and tail-lights, red brakes calipers with S embossed logos, privacy glass, electric flooding and heated door mirrors finished in aluminium, and privacy glass.
Inside, the S4 scores S sport front seats with S embossing on the front-seat backrest and rhombus pattern finished in Nappa leather.
The front seats are electrically adjustable (with memory function) as well as heated. There’s three-zone climate control, an interior ambient lighting package, a leather-wrapped, flat-bottomed steering wheel with paddle-shifters, and stainless steel pedals.
Like the broader A4 range, infotainment comes via Audi’s new 10.1-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Audi Connected plus services that brings live traffic and weather updates, a 19-speaker Bang&Olufsen premium sound system, and DAB+ digital radio.
A head-up display is standard, too, as is wireless phone charging, keyless entry and start and Audi’s Virtual Cockpit 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
The S4 range also scores Audi’s full suite of active safety and assistance tech including adaptive cruise control with stop&go function, 360-degree cameras, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.
Park assist and high-beam assist also come standard, as does Audi’s exit warning system which alerts drivers to approaching cyclists and vehicles as they are opening the door.
Options are few. Metallic paint comes standard and the entire 12-colour palette is available as a no-cost option.
The Audi Quattro sport differential adds $2990 to the bottom line, while matrix LED headlights, which includes dynamic cornering lights, front and rear dynamic indicators and a headlight washer system asks for $1365.
There’s also the $3770 Carbon and Black package which brings, as you would expect, carbon-fibre garnishes and trims. A single-pane, tinted glass sunroof adds a further $2500 to the price.
The S4 Avant is priced at $102,000 plus on-road costs and has a near-identical level of equipment with the addition of roof rails. The optional single-pane sunroof is not available for the Avant, instead you’ll need to hand over $3020 for the optional two-pane panoramic roof.
Additionally, the Carbon and Black pack is not available for the S4 Avant. It’s also slightly slower to 100km/h than its sedan sibling, taking 4.9 seconds to reach triple figures.
The S5 range encompasses the $106,500 S5 Coupe and S5 Sportback and the $120,000 S5 Cabriolet. Equipment levels are on a par with the S4 range, the biggest difference the standard 20-inch alloys (against the S4’s 19s) across the range.
Additionally, heated seats are a $900 option in the S5 Coupe and Sportback, but come standard in the S5 Cabriolet.
Audi claims the S5 Coupe can hit 100km/h in 4.7 seconds, the S5 Sportback a smidge slower at 4.8s, while the S5 Cabriolet will need 5.1s to reach triple figures.
The entire S4 and S5 range is expected to go on sale in Australia in October.
