Mercedes-Benz recall 5826 X-Class utes for autonomous braking fault

A recall notice for the Mercedes-Benz X-Class has been lodged with the ACCC, citing an issue with the model's active braking assistance feature.

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall on a total of 5826 X-Class dual-cab utes (MY2018 and MY2019), citing an issue with the active braking assistance feature.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says the dual-cab ute's brake assist system may “mistakenly detect an obstacle and brake suddenly or unexpectedly.”

Mercedes-Benz Australia says that such an eventuality could increase the “risk of an accident and serious injury or death to the vehicle occupants or other road users.”

The affected vehicles were sold between February 2018 and August 2019.

A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Australia told CarAdvice "we have had some instances reported in Australia."

"The vehicles require a software update to fix the problem, which we will be doing at dealerships or at the VPC for those vehicles still there."

A full list of vehicle identification numbers for the 5,826 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
