2021 Hyundai Tucson previewed in new renderings

As the new Tucson draws nearer to its official unveiling, CarAdvice imagines how it might look

UPDATE: The 2021 Hyundai Tucson has now been revealed. See our full story here.

Between last year's stylised Vision T show car and recent spy photos, there's no great feats of imagination required in guessing at the final design of the new-generation 2021 Hyundai Tucson.

That hasn't stopped us trying, of course, so we've again tasked artist Theophilus Chin with crafting an informed but still speculative look at how the new mid-sized family SUV will look.

As with the new-generation i30 Sedan (Elantra), the 2021 Tucson will debut an edgy new style based on Hyundai's new 'Parametric Dynamics' themes – and we can likely also expect the company's other new catchphrase, 'Sensuous Sportiness', to work its way into the marketing materials.

Compared with the current model, released in 2015, the new Tucson boasts a similar look in its tapered glasshouse, but from there down it becomes a wildly different beast.

Sure to polarise are the sharp creases and folds sliced through the new Tucson's body, flanked by large boxy guards and arches. Up front, one of the latest interpretations of Hyundai's family grille can be seen, a design dubbed ''Parametric-jewel pattern'.

At the rear, while less obvious in spy photos, we expect to see a forked lamp design beneath a reflective or LED-lit band across the new Tucson's tail gate.

The new Tucson's interior has also been teased and spied in great detail, as shown here.

Further details on the new medium SUV are still to surface, although the original Vision T's plug-in hybrid platform – and of course Hyundai's established move to introduce more hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full-electric models like the Ioniq range – suggest we'll see the new Tucson launch with a range of powertrain options.

What remains to be seen is whether Australia will be treated to these technologies in the Tucson, but the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid's runaway success should certainly prove motivating for Hyundai.
