Peugeot design boss Gilles Vidal leaves for Renault

The French designer had spent the entirety of his 24-year career within the PSA Group, before announcing his departure in July.

Gilles Vidal, the former head of design at Peugeot, is set to join Groupe Renault in November, after a career spent entirely with the PSA Group (Peugeot, Citroen, DS and now Opel).

The 48-year-old Frenchman started his career at Citroen in 1996, and served as Peugeot Director of Design between January, 2010 and July, 2020.

At Peugeot he styled a wide range of vehicles, including the latest 2008, 208 supermini, 3008, 5008 SUVs, 508 fastback and 508 wagon.

In his new role Vidal will report to existing head of design Laurens van den Acker and former Seat designer Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos.

"We are thrilled to welcome Gilles Vidal into our team. Gilles has an intimate knowledge of creating strong and attractive design-led brands,” van den Acker said in a statement from Renault.

“His widely recognised experience, his sense of innovation and passion for design will be great assets for Groupe Renault. Gilles has been an inspiration for many, and I’m looking forward to work with him to meet the challenges of tomorrow's mobility.”

Matthias Hossann has been announced as his replacement at Peugeot.
