The 2021 Holden Colorado we were supposed to get

The 2021 Holden Colorado ute won't be coming to Australian showrooms next year because the brand will be retired by the end of 2020, but here's how it was going to look.

What was Holden's biggest-selling car since it ended Australian manufacturing in October 2017 has been discontinued locally, but will live on in left-hand-drive markets in South America.

Official images of the updated Chevrolet S10 ute have appeared online overnight in Brazil, where it is market leader in the pick-up category.

Although much of the bodywork is unchanged, the front facia of the 2021 Holden Colorado ute was due to receive a freshen-up, with two bold new faces.

There was going to be two distinctive themes, a chrome grille for the mainstream models, and a sporty charcoal design for the flagship Z71.

This would have been the third appearance change for the Holden Colorado in its 10-year model-life, however it was also due to bring with it a number of key technical changes.

The ageing Holden Colorado was to receive technology such as wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an embedded wi-fi hotspot, as well as advanced safety features including city-speed autonomous emergency braking, blind zone warning, and rear-cross traffic alert.

The 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel was due to receive minor changes to the turbocharger, however power and torque were to remain unchanged at 147kW/470Nm.

The 2021 Holden Colorado was also on track for another round of minor suspension tweaks to improve ride comfort without sacrificing load-carrying ability.

Drive understands dealers were told this update was intended to keep the Holden Colorado fresh for at least two more years, before it was due to be replaced by an all-new model that was said to be based largely on the more expensive and more advanced US-market Chevrolet Colorado.

As has been well documented, the updated Colorado will not make its way to showrooms, as General Motors will retire the Holden brand by the end of this year.
