Mercedes-Benz recalls 3115 cars in Australia due to seatbelt defect

Mercedes-Benz Australia has issued a recall on a total of 3115 cars, citing an incorrectly manufactured front seatbelt buckle housing.

The affected models are the C-Class, CLS, E-Class, and GLC from 2018 and 2019.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says “a correctly-fastened seatbelt could be detected as not fastened. If this occurs, a seat belt warning light will remain illuminated and a warning will sound when the vehicle is driven.”

“In the case of an accident, neither of the vehicle's seatbelt tensioning systems would be activated.”

Affected cars were sold between August 1, 2018 and March 29, 2019.

A spokesperson for Mercedes-Benz Australia told Drive, "this is a precautionary recall. There are no known reports in Australia".
