2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, 2021 AMG GLE Coupe price and specs

The refreshed GLE Coupe SUV is bound for Australian showrooms, with two performance models enhanced by Mercedes-AMG.

Australian pricing has been announced for the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLE450 Coupe, 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 Coupe, and 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63S Coupe.

Mercedes has dropped the diesel engine for 2021, with the previous GLE350d replaced by the hybrid petrol GLE450 model.

Pricing has also seen a notable increase across the line-up. Whereas the previous GLE350d started the GLE Coupe range at $125,970, the new GLE450 now kicks-off at $137,000 plus on-road costs.

The AMG GLE53 is priced at $171,800 plus on-road costs, compared with $145,470 of the outgoing GLE43 – a difference of $26,330 for the middle-of-the-range model, and a $5100 premium over the $166,700 GLE53 wagon announced in April.

At the top of the list, the AMG GLE63S jumps from $203,470 to $222,700 plus on-road costs for 2021.

The entry point for the line-up is the GLE450, fitted with a 3.0-litre turbocharged six cylinder producing 270kW/500Nm. A 48 volt mild-hybrid system adds a further 16kW/250Nm, with all four wheels driven via a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Mercedes says the 0-100km/h sprint is completed in 5.7 seconds, and the big German SUV Coupe averages 9.2 litres of fuel for every 100 kilometres driven.

Safety equipment is comprehensive in the GLE450, consisting of nine airbags, steering assist, active radar cruise control, brake assist with cross-traffic warning, lane assist, blind-spot assist, and a traffic-sign recognition system.

Inside you'll find a 12.3-inch high resolution dash running the Mercedes-Benz MBUX system, which recognises voice-controlled commands. Displays are customisable, and connected to a 360-degree camera system and Parking Package.

A Burmester surround sound system includes smartphone integration, with wireless charging available.

The GLE450 Coupe includes keyless entry and start, powered Easy-Pack tailgate, LED headlights, panoramic sunroof, heated front seats, and 21-inch AMG multi-spoke alloy wheels.

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE53 Coupe uses the same mild-hybrid 3.0-litre turbo six-cylinder found in the GLE450, but with enhancements by AMG to bump performance to 320kW/520Nm. A selectable AMG performance exhaust adds the soundtrack.

Fuel economy only increases slightly to 9.3L/100km, but the 0-100km/h time lowers to 5.3 seconds according to the German automaker.

The GLE53 gains the AMG treatment inside and out, with an AMG steering wheel and illuminated door sills, climatised front seats, a lip spoiler, AMG Night Package which adds a number of styling cues to exterior, tinted windows, new grille, and 5-twin spoke 21-inch alloy wheels.

Air suspension comes as standard in the GLE53, as well as AMG's Active Ride Control incorporating 48V active anti-roll bars, providing drivers with a more comfortable performance-oriented ride and handling package.

The range-topping 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLE63S Coupe gets the company's 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 pushing out 450kW/850Nm with a 48V mild-hybrid system, and is mated to an AMG version of the nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive.

Mercedes says the SUV can hit 100km/h from a standstill in only 3.8 seconds, while fuel economy averages 12.6L/100km.

The GLE63S gains an electronic limited-slip rear differential and upgraded brakes.

Inside, the AMG Performance steering wheel gains Dinamica synthetic suede, and extended Nappa leather has been added to the dashboard and doors.

Also included is Mercedes' Active Traffic Assist to help you avoid traffic jams, power-closing doors, a heated windscreen washer system to disperse morning frost, and 22-inch AMG cross-spoke alloy wheels.

The 2021 GLE Coupe range will begin arriving into Australian showrooms from September 2020.
