Pontiac Trans Am signed by Burt Reynolds listed as lottery prize
The now-iconic muscle car was made famous in the 1977 hit film Smokey And The Bandit, in which Reynolds starred.
A 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, signed by Burt Reynolds, has been listed by US “prize package” company dreamgiveaway.com.
The iconic black and gold car was made famous in the 1977 film Smokey And The Bandit, in which Reynolds starred alongside Sally Field, Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed.
The film was also the directorial debut of stuntman Hal Needham.
The car, which was supplied to dreamgiveaway.com by engineering company Ames Performance, does not appear to have been in anyway related to the production of the film or its sequels – beyond its association with Reynolds when it was signed in 2015.
It is also not clear if the vehicle is one of the 77 officially sanctioned replicas built by Pontiac following the films release, or if it is a modified version of the standard car.
It is powered by a 403 cubic inch (6.6-litre) V8 engine, and according to the list features “power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning.”
According to the prize-givers, this particular Pontiac Trans Am has clocked 36,000 miles (57,936km).
The “prize pack” also includes US$17,500 (approximately AU$24,500) to cover taxes associated with owning the vehicle, as well as travelling expenses to pick it up from Clearwater, Florida.
According to autoevolution.com, an "original" car used to promote the film is now owned by Florida car collector John Staluppi, who paid a record $550,000 for it in 2016.
At least four other versions of the vehicle were reportedly destroyed during filming.
The GM-owned Pontiac brand collapsed in 2008, after the global financial crisis rendered it inviable.
The last Pontiac-badged cars were delivered in late 2009.
Burt Reynolds passed away in September 2018, having featured in more than 70 films. He was 82 years old.
