SsangYong recalls Chairman due to possible steering fault
SsangYong Chairman sedans built between 2001 and 2007 may develop a crack in the steering lock housing.
SsangYong Australia has issued a recall of 108 examples of its Chairman sedan with made from 2001 to 2007 (MY01-MY07) due to a potentially serious steering fault.
The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says "a crack developing in the steering lock housing can cause the steering wheel to lock into the straight ahead position when the key is turned".
SsangYong says the steering may not operate, dramatically increasing the risk of an accident or serious injury or death of vehicle occupants and other road users.
Affected cars were sold between 1 November 2001 and 30 August 2007.
A spokesperson for SsangYong Australia has told CarAdvice there are no known instances of the issue affecting owners locally.
A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the 108 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
