Skoda Slavia spider: annual student concept car unveiled

Now in its seventh year, trainees from the Skoda Academy have designed and built their very own concept car.

The Skoda Slavia concept car has been unveiled, and it was built entirely by students.

Apprentices at the Skoda Academy – the car company's vocational school – designed and built the convertible concept car themselves, with guidance from instructors as well as experts from Skoda.

This is the seventh concept car to be produced by Skoda Academy students, as an annual celebration of the Czech brand's formation. This year Skoda celebrates its 125th birthday.

The Slavia concept follows in the footsteps of the 2019 Mountiaq ute and 2018 Sunroq SUV cabrio, and is an open-top version of the Skoda Scala small car – the company's answer to the popular Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Golf.

Kateřina Zamlová, one of only 31 students who worked on the project, spoke of her enthusiasm for the program: “I wanted to take part last year, but all the places were already taken."

"I’m really interested in this project and I’m glad I can have a go this year. In a couple of years I’d like to be able to say: I played a part in making this gorgeous car," Ms Zamlová said.

Extensive modifications were made to the Scala's body to create the Slavia, as well as to the interior. Specially-designed lighting was engineered into the badges, while integrating the vehicle's centre brake light into the rear.
