2021 Nissan Magnite concept revealed for India

Magnite concept debuts as “the beginning of a new era that Nissan wants to bring in India”.

Fresh off its premium new electric Ariya SUV unveiling, Japanese car maker Nissan now revealed the 2021 Nissan Magnite compact SUV concept.

Designed in Japan, the production version of the concept shown here is expected to go on sale in India early next year, where it will also be built.

Keen industry observers will note the Magnite does not wear Nissan's familiar 'V-Motion' grille design, but it's not a sign of things to come. The Magnite was originally supposed to launch under the Datsun marque, but that reborn brand has been retired once again.

Whether the production Magnite will debut with a new grille design, however, remains to be seen.

The concept shown here looks largely production ready, although a toned-down approach could be taken for the lighting at both ends, along with the bumpers and cladding features.

The Magnite will enter beneath the existing Kicks – another model not offered in Australia – and its styling cues will likely inform an update or replacement for its larger sibling.

Powertrains will include a 53kW 1.0-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine, matched to a five-speed manual transmission, along with a 70kW turbo 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with a choice of five-speed manual or CVT automatic transmission.

The interior for the Magnite concept has not been revealed, suggesting it will either be teased further in the months ahead – or it may not have a concept-level cabin design and a production version is all that has been developed.
