Around the tracks: A G63 drops from a helicopter and a 911 GT1 Evo sighting in Melbourne

Plus, a cheeky Ford Bronco joke, Spotify's most popular driving songs and three famous movie cars up for auction.

When we’re not creating it ourselves, the CarAdvice team spends a lot of time finding and consuming motoring content from all over the world.

Here’s a handful of the photos, articles, videos or social media posts that most caught our eye last week. Some of them are brand new, others have been online for a while.

Enjoy them – just not too much, okay?

1. This man dropping his Mercedes-AMG G63 from a helicopter

We've all likely owned a lemon of a car at some point in our lives. Usually, the number of repairs will force you to trade it in, send it to the wrecking yard or donate it to a poor, unsuspecting family member as a "gift".

Russian man Igor Moroz, however, decided to embrace a slightly more dramatic disposal method when farewelling his troublesome Mercedes-AMG G63.

The YouTube star enlisted a helicopter to destroy his two-year-old G-wagon, which he claims required a service almost once a month because it kept breaking down.

You can watch the video below, in which Moroz snacks on popcorn as he watches his car being dropped from extreme heights onto Russia's snowy plains.

We probably don't need to say this, but in case we do: Do NOT try this at home.

2. This Ford Bronco design joke

In case you missed it, the 2021 Ford Bronco was unveiled this week, prompting plenty of our readers to ponder why we're likely not getting it in Australia. (Seriously, why?!)

But while the car's refreshed looks were mostly well-received, Instagram account @bestoffroad pointed out the new design bears some striking similarities to a couple of other familiar faces.

And thus, this brilliant one-night-stand gag was born...

3. Three iconic movie cars up for auction

Ever wanted to own the Ectomobile from Ghostbusters? Or the Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman? Or even the 1981 DeLorean from Back to the Future?

It seems someone else's misfortune (or rather, misdeeds) could mean your lucky day! An auction house in the United States is selling off all three iconic movie cars after they were reportedly seized from their previous owner by the US Marshals Service as part of a healthcare fraud and drug crimes investigation.

They're all up for public auction on August 1 this year in Ohio and you can check them out on the Skipco Auto Auction website. The DeLorean is even signed by Doc Brown, aka actor Christopher Lloyd!

4. A 911 GT1 Evo sighting in Melbourne

It's not often you get to see one of the world's rarest cars on the streets of your hometown.

The CarAdvice team in Melbourne are keeping their eyes peeled after a unique Porsche 911 GT1 Evo was spotted on the back of a vehicle transporter on a freeway near the city's CBD.

It's one of only one of a handful of chassis of its kind ever created by Porsche and this particular one is the only chassis in the world that has been converted from race car to road car.

While Porsche created 20-odd road-going GT1 cars, this car was actually the only race-going 911 GT1 Evo to be converted into a road-legal car. One of a kind.

The conversion was done by UK engineering firm Lanzante in 2015 and the car was last sold Sotheby's for a whopping €2.772m (AUD$4.518m).

We happen to know this 911 GT1 landed at Dutton Garage in Richmond, so if you happen to be in the area, keep an eye out.

5. Spotify's most popular driving songs

Planning your next road trip and want to craft the perfect playlist? The folks at UK car parts retailer Halfords took it upon themselves to analyse over 300,000 songs from Spotify playlists that included terms like ‘car’, ‘driving’ and ‘road trip’ to see which tracks dominated.

Their results presented a perfect picture of the kind of driving music everyone can appreciate. Below, the top 10 driving tracks from their study.

1. Sweet Home Alabama – Lynyrd Skynyrd
2. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
3. Hotel California – Eagles
4. Mr. Brightside – the Killers
5. All Star – Smash Mouth
6. Hey, Soul Sister – Train
7. Africa – TOTO
8. Livin’ On A Prayer – Bon Jovi
9. Party In The U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus
10. Hey There Delilah – Plain White T’s

(Ahem, don't forget CarAdvice's own fave driving songs... - Stevo.)
