2021 BMW 2 Series Coupé rendered: M245i – UPDATE

BMW's new 2 Series two-door, in all its rear-wheel-drive glory, should be revealed soon. Let's have a guess at how it'll look...

UPDATE: We've revised our renderings to more directly reflect the look of the silver car that leaked some time ago. What do you think of the design?

July 16: Revealing new spy photos last week of the upcoming 2021 BMW 2 Series coupe gave fans their first look at the new model, but a number of details were still comprehensively camouflaged.

However, a pair of photos that leaked in April are believed to have completely revealed the new model's front- and rear styling – although rumours persist that it may be a Chinese 1 Series sedan facelift.

For the sake of forming a starting point, we've settled on those photos as indeed previewing the new 2er – and we've had our artist friend Theophilus Chin combine all of these into a convincing next-generation 2 Series coupe.

As with the leaked photos, our renders show a pair of heavily stepped headlights set back into a chunky front-end, flanking a more conventional kidney grille rather than the taller nostrils of the new 4 Series.

Our renderings differ from the silver spied car by revealing bumper designs that are more in line with what we've seen so far of BMW's sub-M hero models.

UPDATE, July 20: Where we had previously gone with bumper designs that had more in common with the current BMW line-up, we've now added revised renderings that match the silver car shown in the earlier leaked photos. Our previous renderings can still be seen at the bottom of this story. Which do you prefer the look of?

Whether the silver model is a performance-focused M-tuned model remains to be seen, but the presence of an M badge should at least suggest a sports styling pack.

The name of the next M Performance hero in the 2 Series range is still to be revealed, but we can likely expect to see an M240i badge – if not an upgrade to M245i, although this could lead buyers to assume it's a more potent offering than the larger M340i.

In either case, power should come from the B58 inline-six, with figures around the 260kW mark rumoured. (The same engine offers 285kW in the M340i.)
