2021 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport price and specs – UPDATE

On its 50th birthday, the updated Range Rover gets a new hybrid 3.0-litre diesel offering V8 power with lower emissions and better economy.

UPDATE, September 3: Pricing and equipment changes for the 2021 Range Rover Sport line-up has been revealed. Details below, with pricing at bottom of story.

Keyless entry is now standard on Range Rover Sport SE petrol and diesel models, while the entire range now gets 'Drive Pro Pack' as standard, which includes blind-spot assist, adaptive cruise control, high-speed emergency braking, lane keep assist, driver condition monitor, and traffic sign recognition – however, the last two features are not available on Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic and SVR models.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography Dynamic and SVR models also miss out on heated front and rear seats as standard across the range.

A 360-degree camera is also new across the Range Rover Sport line-up, while SE diesel, petrol, and PHEV variants get digital radio, carpet mats, solar attenuating windscreen, and head-up display as standard.

Land Rover Australia says the 2021 Range Rover Sport will be arriving in the fourth quarter of 2020.

This article will be updated when the final specification of the 2021 Range Rover has been made available.

July 15:

The 2021 Range Rover and 2021 Range Rover Sport have been unveiled, with the luxury SUVs gaining an all-new hybrid diesel powertrain and two new model variants.

The 48-volt mild-hybrid twin-turbo diesel 3.0-litre inline six cylinder offers either 221kW/650Nm or 258kW/700Nm in the Range Rover, or a third option of 183kW/600Nm in the Range Rover Sport.

If optioning the new hybrid diesel, only the highest power option is available in the Long-Wheel-Base (LWB) Range Rover.

Fuel economy is claimed to be as low as 8.3 litres per 100 kilometres in the lower-powered Range Rover Sport, and as high as 9.9L/100 in the higher-power LWB variant.

Meeting Euro-6D emissions regulations, the hybrid diesel was developed entirely in-house by Jaguar Land Rover engineers and replaces the SDV6 and SDV8 engines previously fitted to the models.

The new powertrain joins the 3.0-litre petrol turbo six-cylinder with 294kW/550Nm, a 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder plug-in hybrid offering 297kW/640Nm, and the 5.0-litre supercharged petrol V8 offering 386kW/625Nm or 416kW/700Nm.

Launched in 1970, Range Rover is celebrating its 50th anniversary by offering a special model: the Range Rover Fifty Edition.

As reported in June, the Fifty Edition is based on the range-topping Autobiography and only 1970 will be built, of which 37 will be coming to Australia.

The Fifty Edition will be joined by a new model in the Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic Black – with black 22-inch wheels, black trims and badging, black quilted leather interior, and powered by the 416kW/700Nm supercharged 5.0-litre V8.

But for those seeking outright performance, the 2021 Range Rover Sport SVR Carbon Edition gains a worked version of the supercharged V8, putting out 423kW/700Nm.

With a partially-exposed carbon-fibre bonnet and carbon-fibre trim pieces featured across the vehicle, the Carbon Edition can propel its occupants to 100km/h in a claimed 4.5 seconds. It is the fastest and most powerful vehicle ever offered by Land Rover.

All Range Rover and Range Rover Sport models for 2021 will get the Touch Pro Duo infotainment system, which includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Range Rover continues its commitment to off-road capability with Terrain Response 2 and All-Terrain Progress Control, allowing drivers to select different modes to suit the road environment, and set a crawler speed using the car's cruise control.
