Lamborghini Urus vs Jeep Trackhawk: world’s fastest SUVs drag race
Texas tuning firm Hennessey has put the world’s fastest SUVs – the Lamborghini Urus and Jeep Trackhawk – in a head-to-head drag race.
Both vehicles are in showroom standard condition and were tested before they were due to receive a power upgrade.
On paper, there’s nothing between the two. The Lamborghini Urus has a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of 3.6 seconds on the way to a top speed of 305kmh. The Jeep Trackhawk has a claimed 0 to 100kmh time of 3.7 seconds on the way to a top speed of 289kmh.
As the video shows, both vehicles are true to their maker’s claims, separated by a split second after a number of runs.
What’s fascinating is how close the performance of each vehicle is to the other, considering the vast price gap.
In Australia, you could buy almost three Jeep Trackhawks ($134,500 plus on-road costs) for the price of one Lamborghini Urus ($390,000 plus on-road costs).
Also of interest is how they deliver their results using different sources of power and forced induction.
The Lamborghini Urus has a twin turbo 4.0-litre V8 (478kW/850Nm) matched to an eight-speed auto and all-wheel-drive – in a 2200kg package – to deliver a power-to-weight ratio of 217kW per tonne.
The Jeep Trackhawk has a supercharged 6.2-litre V8 (522kW/868Nm) matched to an eight-speed auto and all-wheel-drive – in a 2461kg package – to deliver a power-to-weight ratio of 212kW per tonne.
When driven sedately the Lamborghini Urus has a claimed fuel consumption average of 12.7L/100km (based on a laboratory tests), whereas the Jeep Trackhawk looks like it’ll go past anything except a petrol station, consuming 16.8L/100km in the same fuel economy test.
Unfortunately, the guys at Hennessey didn’t connect a V-Box timing device during the drag race, so we don’t get to see the difference in performance between the two cars to the decimal place. This is a visual test only – but it’s worth it for the sound alone.
