2021 Isuzu D-Max teased as orders open ahead of launch

The 2021 Isuzu D-Max has been teased in a promotional video as orders open online ahead of the vehicle’s showroom arrival in the middle of next month.

Customers can register their “expression of interest” on the Isuzu Ute Australia website and be notified when the vehicle will arrive in their nearest showroom.

The first completely new Isuzu D-Max was unveiled in Thailand in October last year and is already on sale there; you can see our coverage of its global unveiling here.

Although anyone with access to the internet can view the entire 2021 Isuzu D-Max range on the company’s Thailand website, the Australian distributor is yet to provide any details on price and equipment – or complete images – of the new model.

As reported earlier, Drive understands the new Isuzu D-Max will be the first ute in Australia with a centre airbag and is expected to come with a full suite of advanced safety tech to be eligible for a five-star safety rating.

Other enhancements include a digital speed display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and smartphone charging, a large infotainment screen, and height and reach adjustment on the steering wheel for the first time.

A preview of the new generation Mazda BT-50 – based on the 2021 Isuzu D-Max – reveals Isuzu will likely continue with a three-leaf rear suspension set-up, rather than a five-leaf arrangement as per most rivals.

The trusty 3.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder comes in for a mild power boost, from 130kW/430Nm to 140kW/450Nm, still placing it near the bottom of the segment in terms of overall output, however the engine has proven to be under-stressed in its previous guises.

Isuzu Ute Australia says further details will be released on 13 August 2020 when the vehicle goes on sale. In the meantime, customers can register their interest via the company’s website.
