SsangYong Tivoli on hiatus until 2021 as stock runs out

Higher than expected demand has depleted dealer stock of the Ssangyong Tivoli, now the model is set for relaunch next year.

The 2020 SsangYong Tivoli and Tivoli XLV have been quietly put on hiatus after the company sold out of stock in Australia.

Although the small Tivoli SUV and slightly larger Tivoli XLV sold in relatively modest numbers (67 and 24 cars respectively) in the first half of 2020, the company says this exhausted dealer stock and so SsangYong Australia has removed the models from its website.

Year-to-date, the SsangYong Tivoli has outsold the Ford EcoSport and Renault Captur combined.

A spokesperson for SsangYong Australia told CarAdvice it was likely new stock would not arrive for up to nine months.

"Leaving it advertised on our website would be deceptive and misleading, hence the removal," the spokesperson said.

With an update to the Tivoli already in the pipeline – as well as the ongoing impacts of the coronavirus pandemic – SsangYong Australia says it made the decision to delay a local relaunch of the models to 2021.

Ssangyong is Korea's fourth largest car maker and is owned by Indian automotive giant Mahindra.

However, a report by the Reuters news agency last month said SsangYong was "looking for a potential buyer" after Mahindra expressed interest in giving up its majority stake in the struggling company.
