Electric Porsche Macan due in Australia in 2022

An electric alternative to Porsche's Macan SUV is due in local showrooms the year after its 2021 reveal in Europe.

Porsche’s next-generation electric Macan SUV is due in Australian showrooms in 2022 – following its European debut in 2021.

Although the above image is a computer illustration – by KDesign AG – of how the new model might look (borrowing the front-end styling theme from the Porsche Taycan), the electric Macan will be built and sold alongside existing petrol variants, giving buyers a choice between petrol and electric power for the foreseeable future. Porsche dropped diesel from all its models two years ago.

The Macan is Porsche's biggest selling model in Australia, accounting for half of all sales locally. The option of pure electric power is designed to broaden its appeal.

“Some customers are not ready for EVs, so there will be two different [Macans],” Porsche’s director of SUVs Julian Baumann told Autocar UK last year.

Following the electric Macan's slated 2021 reveal, CarAdvice understands the electrified SUV will be offered in Australia the following year.

Set to be built on the upcoming ‘PPE’ platform being co-developed by Porsche and Audi, the Macan electric is said to produce up to 522kW in Turbo S guise, promising a quick 0 to 100kmh time, although exact numbers are yet to be confirmed.

The electric Macan will join the electric Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo when it goes on sale locally.
