2021 Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron Concept revealed

Audi has revealed images and details of its electric Q4 Sportback e-tron Concept – a sleek, coupe-like version of the Q4 e-tron small SUV – with production slated to begin next year.

The Q4 Sportback e-tron will join Audi’s line-up in 2021 as its seventh electric model, sharing an MEB platform with the Q4 e-tron and various other electric models in the Volkswagen Group family.

Measuring 4600mm in length and 1600mm in height, the Q4 Sportback e-tron is 10mm longer and 10mm more squat than the SUV-bodied Q4 e-tron.

The Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron rides on 22-inch wheels and gets LED lighting segments. Audi says that owners will be able to choose the pattern of their Daytime Running Lights.

Equipped with an electric motor at each end, the Q4 Sportback e-tron will send drive to all four wheels with torque vectoring, however a focus on performance and efficiency will see power biased to the rear.

Thanks to an 82kWh battery, the rear motor will generate 150kW/310Nm, while the one up front outputs 75kW/150Nm for a combined 225kW/460Nm. Audi claims the figure is good for a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.3 seconds.

Audi says the battery pack can be recharged to 80 per cent in a “little more” than 30 minutes, thanks to being 125kW charging capable, and will have a 450km driving range on the WLTP standard.

By placing the 510kg battery in the centre of the floor, Audi claims a weight distribution of 50:50 front to rear, giving the higher-riding Q4 Sportback e-tron sporty characteristics and a similar centre of gravity to an internal combustion engine sedan. Handling is further aided by adaptive dampers.

A focus on aerodynamic efficiency also brings the model’s drag coefficient down to 0.26 – 0.01 less than the Q4 e-tron SUV. The high rear hatch has been split into two glass panes to improve aerodynamics and improve range, but without compromising rear visibility.
