2021 Skoda Octavia line-up revealed in Europe, Australia keeps established engines
Skoda reveals no less than eight powertrain options for the Octavia, but Australia will stick with familiar engines.
The 2021 Skoda Octavia range was revealed in Europe over the weekend, with the model to be fitted with petrol, diesel, hybrid, and compressed natural gas (CNG) options.
In total, the Octavia will come with eight powertrains offering 12 performance levels to European buyers.
However, Australia will be offered a more focused range of engine options, starting with the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder producing 180kW in the flagship Skoda Octavia RS.
Utilising a dual-clutch transmission and limited-slip differential, the Octavia RS wagon is due to arrive in the first quarter of 2021, followed by the lift-back later in the year.
Hybrid powertrains have been ruled out for the time being, thanks to Australia's poor-quality petrol. A spokesperson for Skoda Australia has also confirmed the CNG motor won't be brought here, due to the limited support for the fuel.
The full line-up for Australia has yet to be officially detailed, but it's possible we could also receive the high-riding Octavia Scout. Sales for SUVs have outpaced other body styles in the Skoda range this year, but whether Australia receives the Scout may simply come down to factory allocation.
Standard Octavia models could also carry-over the 1.4-litre, 110kW engine already offered locally, although CarAdvice understands that a newer 1.5-litre engine has not been ruled out. The 1.4-litre is already available in the Skoda Karoq, and last month it was announced the engine would be available in the upcoming Mk8 Volkswagen Golf.
