Nissan's unannounced but well publicised new logo looks set to make its production debut very soon.

Nissan has handed down a trio of teaser images for a new Indian-market SUV called Magnite, which, while unlikely to come to Australia, does reveal one interesting element: the company's new logo.

Trademarked in March alongside a new 'Z' logo for the upcoming 400Z sports car, the stylised Nissan logo breathes new life into the Japanese car maker's branding.

The company has yet to make any announcements about the new logo, however, leading to speculation that it could either be a new badge design or simply a new identity for concept cars and corporate branding – like BMW's recent rebranding.

Likewise, Kia showed a stylised new logo on its Imagine concept last year, and that logo was trademarked soon after.

If this teaser image is anything to go by – and it certainly isn't a clear view at this point – a Nissan badge just barely visible on the Magnite concept's wheel could be our latest look at the new logo in play.

Until now, the new branding has appeared only on the recent Ariya electric SUV concept – which will make its production debut the day before this new Magnite model.

And, considering Nissan has hidden its grille badge behind a black sheet, this too could be another hint that we'll see more than just some new models revealed in a couple of weeks.

As for the SUV itself, it's understood to be a mere concept at this point, with a production version to enter the Indian market in late 2020 or early 2021.

Interestingly, the grille shape suggests this model was intended to launch with the Datsun brand that reappeared in 2013 for certain 'developing' markets – although industry journal Automotive News has reported in recent weeks that Nissan is now looking to cut Datsun as part of its sweeping cost cuts.

The new model is of course unlikely to come to Australia, with the Juke and Qashqai filling that space.
