2020 Porsche Cayenne recalled for transmission fault

The performance SUV may develop a leak that puts occupants and other road users at risk.

Porsche Australia has issued a recall of 189 Cayennes due to a transmission leak.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says an oil pipe fitted to the transmission on 2020 Cayenne (9YA) and Cayenne Coupe (9YB) SUVs may have been welded incorrectly, which can result in a leak.

Affected cars were sold between 19 September 2019 and 3 December 2019.

CarAdvice can confirm this is the same fault affecting Audi’s Q7 and Q8, and Volkswagen’s Touareg SUVs as all brands are members of the Volkswagen Group.

Porsche Australia says if the transmission leak occurs while driving, escaping oil may increase the risk of an accident for occupants and other vehicles following.

There are no known known incidents of the failure on Australian-delivered cars.

Porsche says replacement parts will be available from this month, and is contacting affected owners to organise inspection and repair.

The company says any owners who notice a leak should park the vehicle safely immediately and call 1800 659 911.

A full list of the vehicle identification numbers of the 189 cars involved in the recall can be found here.
