More affordable rear-wheel-drive Porsche Taycan lands in China
Porsche adds a base Taycan to the line-up, but an Australian release is yet to be confirmed.
A new base-model Porsche Taycan has debuted in China, devoid of additional badges like its 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S siblings.
This new Porsche Taycan model only has a single electric motor powering the rear wheels, unlike the all-wheel-drive models currently available to buy in Australia.
While the most affordable Taycan currently available in Australia is the 4S, which starts at $191,000 plus on-road costs, the new base model has been priced from 888,000 yuan – or roughly AU$182,747.
As with the Taycan 4S, the base Taycan is offered with two battery pack options: the standard 79.2kWh producing 320kW/640Nm and 390kW on overboost, and the 93.4kWh Performance Plus option providing 360kW/400Nm with a maximum 420kW available on overboost.
Range is claimed to be 414km and 489km on the Performance Plus battery, based on NEDC testing.
The rear-wheel-drive Taycan does the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.4 seconds, or 1.4 seconds slower than the all-wheel-drive Taycan 4S with the same battery pack.
A spokesperson for Porsche Australia told CarAdvice: "We are yet to confirm the Taycan two-wheel-drive model for Australia at this time."
Porsche Taycan 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S models will be available for delivery from December 2020.
