BMW Australia has announced the 2021 BMW 220i Gran Coupé will be added to the 2 Series model line-up, arriving Down Under sometime in late 2020.

The BMW 220i Gran Coupé will be priced from $53,990 plus on-road costs, slotting in between the BMW 218i Gran Coupé at $49,990 plus on-road costs and the 220i Coupé at $56,900 plus on-road costs. BMW increased pricing on 2 Series models in June 2020.

The premium compact sedan gets a 2.0-litre turbo petrol four-cylinder engine producing 141kW and 280Nm, powering the front wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with steering-wheel mounted paddle shifters.

This represents a 37 per cent increase in power over the 218i Gran Coupé, for only eight per cent more money.

Acceleration for the BMW 220i Gran Coupé is claimed at 7.2 seconds over the 0-100km/h sprint – knocking 1.5 seconds off the 218i's best time.

The 2021 BMW 220i Gran Coupé gets a M Sport package as standard, which includes a thick, multifunction leather M Sport steering wheel, sports seats trimmed in either cloth or synthetic Sensatec leather, and an anthracite headliner.

Driver assistance and safety tech comes courtesy of BMW's Driving Assistant, which includes lane departure and lane change warnings, low-speed auto braking with approach warning, rear cross-traffic warning, rear collision warning, and speed limit information.

Parking Assistant also comes standard, with front and rear sensors, rear view camera, reversing assistant, and Automatic Parking Assistant – allowing semi-autonomous parallel parking.

Fuel consumption figures have not yet been announced, but this article will be updated when that information becomes available.

Apple CarPlay and wireless smartphone charging are provided via BMW's Connected Package Professional, with BMW's Live Cockpit Professional as standard on a 10.25-inch infotainment screen running BMW's own OS7.0. The driver's digital instrument cluster is also 10.25-inch.

On the outside, the 220i Gran Coupé gets an M Sport bodykit, 18-inch Style 819 M Light wheels, LED headlights, LED front fog lights, and LED tail-lights.

BMW's Adaptive Suspension can be optioned on the car, allowing the driver to switch between Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.

The 2021 BMW 220i Gran Coupé will be available for delivery from the third quarter of 2020.
