Polestar launches international design competition

The electric luxury performance arm of Volvo, Polestar, has launched an international car design competition.

The brief, titled 'Pure', states that designers are to envision a car that would be representative of the Polestar brand in the year 2040, pushing the boundaries of imagination without being unrealistic.

Polestar, which was originally born from a race car team, is considered by many to be an alternative to Tesla. It is jointly owned by Volvo and its parent company Geely.

The car brand is known for producing clean minimalistic car designs, following in the footsteps of Scandinavian design of the past 70 years. Scandinavian design is regarded for its clean, practical, and uncluttered style.

Competition winners will be flown to Sweden where they will see a 1/5 scale model of their concept, displayed as the centrepieces of the Polestar Design Exhibition where they will be the guests of honour. All flights and accommodation will be provided by Polestar.

The deadline for the first phase of submissions closes on 27 July 2020. Details on how to enter the competition can be found here.
