Next Genesis showroom, two new models coming in 2020

Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis is about to start rolling out a range of new or updated sedans and SUVs to fill out its expanding dealer network across Australia.

To date there is only one Genesis showroom, which opened in the heart of the Sydney CBD shopping precinct in early 2019.

However, Drive understands a second Genesis showroom is in the final planning stages and should open in Melbourne – Australia’s second largest city and new-car market – by the end of this year, with a Queensland dealership to follow in 2021 ahead of a national roll-out.

Those first three showrooms will soon be filled with three new or updated models.

The new generation Genesis G80 limousine and completely new GV80 SUV are due to arrive before the end of this year, while a facelifted version of the Genesis G70 mid-size sedan – which adopts the brand’s twin horizontal headlight and tail-light signature – is expected in the first half of 2021, though timing is not yet confirmed.

The Genesis G80 limousine, already popular among luxury hire car operators for its comparatively low running costs and affordability compared to European rivals, is expected to be priced in the vicinity of $70,000 to $100,000.

The Genesis GV80 SUV is likely to be the flagship of the fleet, and compete with rivals such as the Audi Q7 and BMW X7, but with an anticipated price range of $80,000 to $120,000.

Details are scarce on the facelifted Genesis G70 – a rival to the BMW 3 Series and Lexus IS – however judging by the progress of prototype models spotted in spy photos, it should be in showrooms next year.

Genesis has also teased international motor show audiences with a pure electric sports car concept, and told media it plans to fill out its showrooms over time with new models in key segments.

When asked what else we can expect from the emerging marque, the spokesman for Genesis Australia, Guido Schenken, said: “We are committed to the long-term future of the brand in Australia, and while the roll-out of our network and new models is gradual, we are here for the long haul and have an exciting portfolio of new models on the way.”
