2021 Hyundai Palisade SUV confirmed for Australia

Hyundai is poised to introduce its biggest SUV ever sold in Australia – the Palisade – with a choice of seven or eight seats and petrol or diesel power.

The Hyundai Palisade SUV – a rival to the Toyota Kluger, Mazda CX-9 and Nissan Pathfinder in the US – has been confirmed for Australia and will arrive in local showrooms by the end of this year.

Prices and exact details are yet to be released, however the Hyundai Palisade SUV is expected to cost between $50,000 and $70,000 and sit above the Hyundai Santa Fe in the line-up.

Hyundai Australia has confirmed the Palisade will be available with a choice of 3.8-litre V6 (213kW/355Nm) petrol front-drive or 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel (147kW/440Nm) all-wheel-drive, and seven or eight seats.

Both engines are matched to eight-speed conventional torque converter automatics.

The Hyundai Palisade is able to be sold in Australia as it is made in right-hand-drive on the same production line as the Santa Fe in Korea.

The twin under the skin to the Hyundai Palisade – the award-winning Kia Telluride sold alongside it in the US – will not come to Australia as that model is made in North America in left-hand-drive only.

The Hyundai Palisade has clearly been designed for families with a sense of adventure – or weekend sport obligations – with 16 cup holders, seven USB charging ports, air conditioning vents to all three rows of seats, a large luggage area and a full size spare should owners venture beyond the city limits.

High end models will come with a digital instrument cluster and a wide infotainment screen with embedded navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Each model will be available with three Isofix child seat anchor and top tether points: one in each outboard position of the second row, and one in the third row.

Certain models will have a push-to-talk intercom for the driver to convey a message to back row passengers, to save yelling at the kids.

All three seat rows can recline, and in top grades the four forward seats are heated and cooled.

Hyundai says the Palisade will be equipped with advanced safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, blind zone warning with camera, and rear cross-traffic alert.

After being slow to saturate the booming market segment, the Palisade is expected to give Hyundai one of the strongest SUV line-ups in Australia with several new or updated models due in the next 12 months,

It will join the recently released Hyundai Venue, an updated Hyundai Kona, new-generation Hyundai Tucson, and a facelifted Hyundai Santa Fe.
