2020 Audi R8 price and specs

Audi's V10 supercar returns to Australia after a lengthy absence.

Audi Australia has announced pricing and specification for its R8 supercar, due back in local showrooms in July 2020.

The face-lifted R8 returns following an absence from the Australian market. CarAdvice understands this to be due to delays in completing emissions and homologation processes in Europe, with Audi giving priority to its higher-selling vehicles.

The 2020 Audi R8 is available in four trims with coupe or convertible body style and rear- or all-wheel drive options.

The rear-wheel-drive (RWD) R8 coupe opens the range at $295,000 plus on-road costs, with the R8 Spyder RWD convertible asking $316,500 plus on-road costs. All-wheel-drive R8 coupe Performance Quattro comes in at $395,000 plus on-road costs and the R8 Spyder Performance Quattro closes out the range at $416,500 plus on-road costs.

The R8 returns with the 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 engine option across the range, however power output varies depending on drivetrain. Rear-wheel-drive R8s produce 397kW/540Nm while all-wheel-drive models output 449kW/560Nm.

Both variants send their power through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Audi claims the Quattro coupe’s figures are good for a 3.2 second sprint from 0-100km/h, with the RWD R8 coupe accomplishing the feat in 3.7 seconds. Convertible variants of each drivetrain add another tenth of a second to the times.

The 2020 Audi R8 coupes tips the scales at 1595kg for both rear- and all-wheel-drive variants. The latter achieves the feat with use of additional lightweight materials.

Outside, the 2020 Audi R8 gets a new front grille, wind-splitter, and air intake design, updated bumpers, standard metallic paint and 20-inch alloy wheels.

Quattro variants get a gloss carbon package as standard, adding carbon-fibre pieces to the exterior and interior.

LED headlights with laser light technology – that Audi claims increases forward vision to 500 metres – feature up front, with LED tail lights and dynamic indicators in the rear.

The 2020 Audi R8 can be had in nine exterior and interior colour combinations, while the rear-wheel-drive variants can be optioned with a choice of two carbon styling packages.

Moving inside, the 2020 Audi R8 gets a 13-speaker, 550 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system, a 12.3-inch virtual cockpit and Audi’s new dual touchscreen MMI infotainment system.

Standard equipment includes heated Nappa leather seats with electric and pneumatic adjustment, a rear-view camera, cruise control, convenience key, heated electric-folding side mirrors and type pressure indicators.

Rear-wheel-drive variants get 18-inch disc brakes with eight-piston calipers up front and four-piston units in the rear. All-wheel-drive models get ceramic 19-inch disc brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston brakes in the back.

The 2020 Audi R8 is due in Australian showrooms from 24 July and is available for pre-order now through Audi’s online purchasing platform.
