Video: Ferrari V6 hybrid spied testing, is it the new Dino?

A Ferrari test mule fitted with what is believed to be a hybrid V6 has been caught on camera driving around Maranello, Italy.

The Ferrari 488 was being used as a platform to test the new hybrid engine near Ferrari headquarters, complete with mysterious wires and stickers warning of the battery packs fitted, and was caught on camera by the YouTube channel Varryx.

This comes after Italian supercar company announced in April that it would be launching two new models in 2020, with Ferrari's commercial chief Enrico Galliera telling Autocar magazine “We’ll keep looking at new, untapped markets.”

“Potentially every segment is of interest to us," Galliera said at the time.

Reports of an entry-level Dino being in the works at Ferrari go as far back as 2015.

While Galliera said back in September that plans for a Dino had been shelved, in that interview the outspoken Ferrari executive refused to rule the Dino out completely.

The comments may have been a ploy to slow the rumour mill, as Galliera has strongly hinted at the company offering a less-expensive, entry-level model as part of the two releases scheduled for 2020.

Is this V6 hybrid powertrain the sound of the new entry-level Ferrari Dino, or another model altogether?
