Audi Q7 and Q8 recalled due to transmission leak

An incorrectly welded pipe may result in a loss of transmission fluid.

Audi Australia has issued a recall of seven examples of its brand-new 2020-2021 Q7 (shown above) and 2019-2021 Q8 SUVs due to a transmission leak.

The recall notice, lodged with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), says an oil pipe fitted to the transmission may have been welded incorrectly, which can result in a leak. A similar recall was announced two weeks ago for the Volkswagen Touareg.

The unit in question is the ‘AL552-8Q’ transmission, produced between September 2019 and December 2019.

Audi Australia says if the transmission leaks oil, there is an increased risk of accident and injury to vehicle occupants and other road users.

CarAdvice has contacted Audi regarding any known incidents in Australia and will update this story.

The company is contacting owners to organise inspection and repair of the defect.

A full list of vehicle identification numbers of the seven cars involved in the recall can be found here.
