2020 Range Rover Fifty celebrates 50th Anniversary, 37 allocated for Australia

Range Rover is celebrating the model’s golden jubilee milestone with the release of a limited-edition new model: the Range Rover Fifty Edition.

The iconic British four-wheel drive has been on and off the roads now for a half century, with the first model released on 17 June 1970. Back then it was available in a two-door body only, but launched with a permanent dual-range four-wheel drive system, four-wheel disc brakes and even a 3500kg tow rating.

Over the following 50 years, the ‘Rangie’ has continued to innovate and was the first 4x4 to feature anti-lock brakes, electronic traction control and automatic electronic air suspension.

Through four distinct generations, the Range Rover has sold upwards of one-million vehicles and remains renowned for its capability as much as it is for its luxury.

To commemorate this anniversary, and in recognition of the launch year, a limited run of just 1970 Range Rover Fifty Edition models will be made available

Based on the Range Rover Autobiography (standard wheelbase), which features the 385kW/625Nm 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine, the Range Rover Fifty is available to Australian buyers in a choice of four colours; Carpathian Grey, Rosello Red, Aruba and Santorini Black.

Other markets have a decidedly more colourful choice, with the ‘Fifty offered in three additional shades, Tuscan Blue, Davos White and Bahama Gold, all from the original 1970 Range Rover catalogue.

A selection of two unique 22-inch wheel designs, exterior trim accents in Auric Atlas and a bespoke ‘Fifty’ script badge complete the look. Inside the headrests, dashboard and illuminated kickplates also feature the script, where a plaque notes the car as ‘1 of 1970’ vehicles commissioned.

Australia

Jaguar Land Rover Australia has confirmed an allocation of 37 examples for Australia, but pricing is still to be revealed.

For reference, the standard SC Autobiography lists at $274,210 before options and on-road costs, so expect the Fifty to command a little bit more.
