2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S 4Matic+ revealed, Australian line-up confirmed

The face-lifted super-sedan gets new styling, renewed aerodynamic focus and more comfort.

Mercedes-AMG has announced specifications for its revised 2021 E63 S sedan and wagon, with the sedan set for Australian showrooms towards the end of this year.

As with the previous generation, Mercedes-AMG will opt only for the more powerful S trim of the E63 – and only in a sedan body – for the Australian market.

Power for the AMG S remains unchanged at 450kW/850Nm from the 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, sent through a nine-speed multi-clutch automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.

The updated E63 S gets a larger centre air intake on the front bumper, an AMG grille with vertical louvres and reshaped LED headlights. A wind-splitter and new, more functional air intakes up front add styling and also “significantly reduce lift” at the front of the car, according to Mercedes-AMG.

The standard 20-inch wheels – which can be had in gloss black or gloss grey – are wider on the front of the revised E63 S, accommodated by wheel arches measuring 27mm wider than the outgoing model.

A revised rear bumper and diffuser, tail light and tailpipe trim design refreshes the rear end of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

New colour offerings including graphite grey metallic, high-tech silver metallic and brilliant blue magno are available for the exterior of the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S.

An AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre Package I has the tail pipe trim, front splitter and other body trimming finished in the material. The AMG Exterior Carbon-Fibre Package II adds the finish to the boot lip spoiler and side mirror housings as well.

Gloss black is laid onto side mirror housings, window frames, and trim elements in the front and rear bumpers with the AMG Night Package.

Inside, the AMG-specific Nappa leather-upholstered sports seats receive integrated head restraints, with the dashboard and door trim sections also finished in grey Nappa leather.

Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX infotainment system features on dual 12.25-inch screens, with one acting as the instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment control.

The MBUX interface comes equipped with advanced voice control Mercedes claims can understand “nearly all sentences” related to infotainment and vehicle operation.

AMG’s new steering wheel with ‘hands-on’ technology is fitted, sensing if a driver’s hands have come away from the wheel, displaying an alert if they have, and eventually activating emergency brake assist if they are not reapplied.

The steering wheel is also heated and can be had in leather, dinamica microfibre or a combination of the two.

AMG’s air suspension with adjustable damping and speed-sensitive steering can be adjusted by the driver – with comfort, sport and sport+ settings for suspension, and basic, advanced and master/pro options for steering feedback and weight.

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S also comes with a choice of drive programs through its AMG Dynamics and Dynamic Select settings, spanning through slippery, comfort, sport, sport+, individual and race.

The E63 S gets red brake calipers with six pistons up front and single-piston units in the rear. The front discs measure at 390mm with the rears at 360mm.

Braking hardware can be upgraded with the AMG Carbon Ceramic brake system, taking the front brake discs up to 402mm.

When will the 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S arrive in Australia and how much will it cost?

The 2021 Mercedes-AMG E63 S will arrive in Australia towards the end of 2020, with local pricing and specifications to be announced closer to the date.
