The 2021 BMW M5 facelift has been leaked online, a day before the official unveiling.

BMW's iconic performance sedan misses out on the oversized 'coffin-shaped' kidney grilles, as seen on the recent release of the 2021 BMW 4 Series Coupé and undisguised BMW M4 spy photo.

The facelifted BMW M5 – referred to as the LCI in BMW parlance – appears to be shown in Imola Red and features the wider, sleeker headlights seen on the recent 5 Series model line-up unveiling.

BMW has also applied the 'Shadowline' treatment to the M5, with all chrome trim made black.

Though official details have yet to be released, it's understood that the facelifted 2021 BMW F90 M5 may be offered in three performance specifications: standard, Competition, and CS.

Current performance figures have the M5 producing 441kW in standard guise and 460kW for the Competition version.

Sitting above the Competition, the 2021 BMW M5 CS is expected to be released after the model was spotted testing undisguised back in October 2019. Details are not yet known, but it's likely to be offered with more power than the Competition's 460kW.

As reported by CarAdvice last month, the next incarnation of the flagship BMW M5 will use a 750kW electrified powertrain.
